Laundry Assistant

Job Summary:

We are looking for a diligent, careful, and efficient Laundry Assistant to handle the washing, drying, ironing, and folding of clothes, linens, and other items. You will help ensure that everything is clean, fresh, and neatly presented, and that items are handled with care and returned on time. The ideal candidate pays close attention to detail, understands fabric care, and takes pride in quality work.

Job Duties:

Receive, sort, and tag laundry items by type, colour, and fabric
Check pockets and inspect items for stains, damage, or missing buttons before washing
Wash laundry by hand or machine using the correct settings, detergents, and temperatures
Treat and remove stains using appropriate methods
Dry items using machines or air-drying, depending on fabric type
Iron, press, and steam clothes, uniforms, and linens to a neat finish
Fold, hang, package, and label finished items for delivery or collection
Keep accurate records of items received, processed, and returned
Report lost, damaged, or unclaimed items to the supervisor promptly
Operate and maintain laundry machines and equipment safely, and report faults immediately
Keep the laundry area clean, organized, and free of hazards
Monitor stock of detergents, softeners, and other supplies, and request restocking when needed
Follow hygiene, safety, and chemical handling procedures at all times
Handle customers’ and employers’ belongings with care and confidentiality
Remain available for flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends when required
Perform other reasonable duties assigned by management

Job Requirements

Education and Qualification:

[Basic education or equivalent]
Physically fit and able to stand for long periods, lift wet laundry, and work in warm conditions
Good attention to detail and a sense of cleanliness
Honest, reliable, and punctual
Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team
Basic numeracy for counting and recording items
Willingness to work flexible hours
Basic knowledge of health and safety practices is an advantage

Work Experience:

[1-2 years] of experience in a laundry, dry-cleaning, hotel, hospital, or household laundry role (preferred, but not essential for the right candidate)
Knowledge of sorting and washing different fabrics and colours, and reading garment care labels
Experience operating washing machines, dryers, steam irons, and pressing equipment
Understanding of stain removal techniques and safe use of detergents, bleach, and other laundry chemicals
Experience folding, packaging, and tagging items accurately
Ability to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining quality
References from previous employers are an advantage
